Green Banana Fries

Green Banana Fries

Cooked green bananas have to be Central America's best kept secret. Green bananas aren’t sweet like you might expect, instead they are starchy, savory, and crispy. Basically a tropical potato. Plus they are ready in less than 20 minutes! Quick meals for the win!

Ingredients

  • 2 Large green bananas
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive oil
  • ½ Of a lime (Extra for serving)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Peel the bananas. Start by cutting the bananas in half and then cut the tips off. Cut the skin on either side of the banana and start to pull the skin off the bananas.
  • Once the bananas are peeled, start the skillet on medium high heat and pour the oil into the skillet. Slice the bananas into ⅛ in slices. You want them thin but not so thin you make chips.
  • Place the bananas in the skillet with salt and lime and cook for 10-12 min stirring occasionally until they begin to turn golden brown on the edges.

Notes

Make sure the banana is all green! If the banana is yellowing it won't have the same savory flavor. I typically make 1 or 1 ½ green bananas per person. Really it depends on the size of the banana. If it is a smaller banana I will do more, if it's a large banana then I stick to one.
